Barbara Ficarra, RN, BSN, MPA, health educator, health advisor, lifestyle & health designer™, is passionate about improving the lives of individuals. She helps inspire individuals to design a healthy and happy life and home. An award-winning broadcast journalist, international speaker, freelance writer, producer, registered nurse at level II trauma center as administrative nursing/hospital supervisor, and consultant, she is on the frontline of health and wellness, and has dedicated her career to improving the lives of individuals in and out of the hospital. She is founder of BarbaraFicarra.com (hub of TheHealthDesigner.net), a lifestyle destination site that helps people live a happier, bolder, healthier and a more stylish life — where healthy meets design, and explores the intersection between design, home, health, tech, art, food and travel — It’s everyday well design™. Barbara has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and FIOS, is published and quoted in popular magazines, and began her career in media as executive producer and host for the award-winning radio show, Health in 30 ®. She is a writer for Huffpost, a contributor to Dr. Oz, TED, KevinMD, HIMSS and other sites, and is on the advisory board at Sharecare Inc.
Barbara has also served on the Academy of Judges for the International Health & Medical Media Awards and was faculty for the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Medical Communications Conferences. She’s a former board member for the National Association of Medical Communicators. She is presently an advisory board member at UCSF for the Master of Science Program for Health IT, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) the Honor Society of Nursing, and a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists.
Barbara is a member of the Academy of Judges for the Sharecare Awards in Association with the Emmys®.
