Thursday, November 27, 2008 12:38Heading off to college is such an exciting time; for young adults, learning to live independently without mom or dad can be exciting, challenging and fun! It’s a time grow academically and socially, but it can also be stressful. It’s important to stay healthy. With all the demands, your health can suffer. It’s important to focus on your health and take charge. Eating right, exercising, getting enough sleep and keeping stress down are extremely important. It’s easy to pack on the pounds; this has become so common that it is known as “Freshman 15.” So think healthy; make sure you get enough fresh fruits and vegetables, choose lean proteins and whole grains. Don’t get caught in the trap of fast fatty unhealthy foods and lots of caffeine. Watch out for soda-it’s filled with empty calories and tons of sugar, instead choose good old fashioned water and to maintain healthy bones choose low-fat or fat-free milk. Always think healthy; this is your chance to shine and choose what’s best for you! Remember, prevention…it begins with you.
