Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Barbara Ficarra

I was thrilled to be invited to Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s book party at Rouge Tomate in New York City on December 14, 2009.

Many people were there to help celebrate the New York Times Best- Selling Author’s book, Cheating Death.

Larry King, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Deepak Chopra, Joan Lunden, Soledad O’Brien, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, and Cindy Adams were some of the many recognizable faces.

President of CNN, Jonathan Klein introduced Sanjay and I had the pleasure of meeting Philip Kent, Chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting.

It was a terrific event and I was honored to be there to help celebrate.

Stay tuned as I will be bringing you an interview with Dr. Gupta.  Dr. Gupta was originally scheduled to be my guest on the Health in 30 Radio Show on October 15th, but I was live on-air with no guest.   We shared a few laughs and I joked with Sanjay how Bonnie Hunt must have had him tied up since he was shooting a segment of her show prior to mine. Dr. Sanjay Gupta is one of the nicest people you could meet.  Very down-to-earth and very humble.

Cheating Death is an intriguing book that deals with how science has made it possible to defy the odds and cheat death.  From hypothermia techniques used in hospitals to new CPR techniques for the general public to the fascinating concept of suspended animation, Cheating Death is a fascinating read.

We would love to hear from you.  Have you read Cheating Death?  What are your thoughts?

Hi Barbara, It’s me Margaret. I’ve just got to write you another fan letter. Your site has really expanded. I get so much information from it. I am currently reading Dr Gupta book. One of my many work experiences was “perfusionist” running the heart lung machine at NYWC. Many times we would be part of a neurosurgery case if it were a long case. I am enjoying the book and that is a great picture of you with Dr Gupta! I would have really enjoyed that party! I listen to Deepak Chopra to relax and de stress a few weeks ago I saw him in a restaurant ,I begged his forgiveness for my interruption and thanked him for his help through my cancer and keep doing what your doing. He held my hand and thanked me. I am on social security now and am devoting myself to my recovery full time. I eat well and get plenty of rest. Your article about de stressing is so , so important. Stress depresses the immune system, leaving you open to everything. I had no idea you also worked at a hospital in addition to all your other interests and responsibilities. I am currently starting my fourth cycle of temodar. I started that after I started developing many subcutaneous melanoma nodules and one area on my left tibia . After three cycles all of my subcutaneous nodules and tibia involvement are gone!! There is hope. Only now I have a spot on my pancreas, I’ll start my forth cycle with PABA as a boost (yes, paba something they’ve had luck with) A great Web site about living with melanoma is GROINSTRONG.COM .A young guy in brooklyn blogs about his struggle. there also a lot to said about our current health care system. He is really strapped for funds so he developed bracelets to sell and a donation site that a percentage is donated to the NYU melanoma research fund. Making lemonade from lemons I say. Well Barbara I want to say I am your biggest fan, You are really making a difference in the word you live in and hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year to you and your family. Again I love your Newsletter and gain alot of knowledge through it. Gratefully and Respectfully Yours, Margaret
